I have used mine for over a year for roasts, entire roosters, chili, soups, and many others. and all are accomplished to perfection on "low". Sounds to me like the other reviewer had a defective one. This slow cooker in reality IS versatile! I have the chrome steel variation, now not the black aluminum one.
